A Message From The Mayor

Hello Chanhassen Residents,

I hope that you are well and enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. As we race towards the end of the year, I’d like to share with you a few updates.

Final City Council Meeting of 2021
On December 13, the City Council will hold a public hearing and set a final levy for 2022.
  • The preliminary levy was set for an increase of 4.9 percent. The Council worked towards reducing that number; however, the final levy now includes adding two full-time firefighters. In the second half of 2021, we saw a significant increase in calls-for-service. This record call volume and limited daytime, on-call volunteers, created a challenging situation; therefore, it was strongly recommended to add two full-time firefighters bringing the total of full-time firefighters to six. Rapid response time remains our number one priority and this addition supports that goal.
  • Thus, the recommendation is to have the proposed levy for 2022 remain at 4.9 percent - a $12 increase on your property tax statement (based on a $400,000 home) which you should have received on your Truth-In-Taxation notice.
  • If you received your tax statement and have concerns about your assessed value, you are encouraged to contact the Carver County Assessor’s Office and attend the Open Book meeting which occurs in April.
  • The public hearing for the 2022 tax levy will be held in the City Council Chambers at 7pm, December 13, 2021.

Carver County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO)
  • The Carver County Sheriff’s Office has implemented officer body-worn cameras. For details on the policy, go to our website.
  • The CCSO is participating in an innovative program called “Lights On.” This program replaces tickets for violations such as broken taillights or turn signals with repair vouchers building goodwill between police departments and the communities they serve. For more information, visit our website.
