Minnewashta Parkway Update
Starting this Saturday, contractors will start curb and pavement removals from Maple Shores Drive to Red Cedar Point Road. They will be working on a soil correction in the roadway, which will require a large dig extending to 600 feet south of the intersection of Red Cedar Point Road. (See Map) Residents living in the Red Cedar Point area and to the north, will need to enter the neighborhood from Hwy 7 and anyone needing to access the area south of Maple Shores Drive will have to enter from Hwy 5. This closure is expected to last through the rest of next week. Accommodations have be made for school buses and emergency vehicles to navigate through the job site. They are the only ones to be allowed through the closure.
Next week, work on the last few water services in section 2 will continue. Concrete work will continue and the contractor will be taking the appropriate cold weather precautions. This will happen through the remaining spots from West 77th Street to Maple Shores Drive.
Obviously, the snow is having an impact on the contractor’s schedule. Please note, the contractor is still pushing forward at this time to complete the majority of the work from West 77th Street to Red Cedar Point Road by Thanksgiving. The City continues to monitor weather/progress and we will make decisions as necessary to get as much work completed as possible. The class 5 aggregate currently in the excavations throughout the site will not be left over the winter or in the trail. If the weather does not facilitate repaving the entire street section these areas will be temporarily patched with the remainder of the work performed in the Spring. Some of the planned work in Phase 1 (2020) has already been removed from the schedule and this planning process will continue on an as needed basis. The intent is to have the contractor continue to get as much work completed this year as possible without sacrificing any quality standards.
