A Message From The Mayor

Dear Chanhassen Residents,

There have been two consistent topics that have garnered a number of inquiries, so I wanted to provide an update along with some clarity.

2020 Road Construction Plans
On Monday night, the City Council voted to delay the upcoming local road projects scheduled to start in August. The cuts to our Municipal State Aid funding, the financial impact to residents facing economic hardships due to COVID-19, and the need to reallocate existing finances to Carver County projects that we are contractually obligated to fund, were contributing factors in this decision. Please click on this link for a Q&A to address frequently asked questions (www.ci.chanhassen.mn.us/postponed).

We know our roads need attention and we will be carefully analyzing this during our 2021 budget conversations.

Police Funding
The City of Chanhassen contracts our policing services with the Carver County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). While we do review our contract on an annual basis, defunding or cancelling our contract is not on the table for discussion. We value our relationship with CCSO and the services that they provide our community.

We have asked the Sheriff to come to our City Council meeting on August 10th at 7pm. We will review current policing practices, compare the CCSO’s policies to the recently passed Police Accountability Act and receive an update on the “Crucial Conversations” outreach.

We welcome questions from our residents, so please submit your questions to publiccomments@ci.chanhassen.mn.us by Monday, August 10th at noon. We look forward to an engaging conversation.

We must continue to work together to address the challenges and opportunities ahead. Thank you for your ongoing involvement in the community.

With Appreciation,
Elise Ryan
