Overview


The City of Chanhassen operates under a council-manager form of government. Under this structure, the elected mayor and city council are responsible for all policy decisions affecting the city. The implementation of council policies and the general administration of city operations are the responsibility of the city manager.

City Manager


The city manager provides leadership, direction and guidance to all city departments, which include Finance, Community Development, Engineering and Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Police, and Fire. Heather Johnson was appointed Interim City Manager in July of 2020 following the retirement of City Manager Todd Gerhardt.

Administration Duties


The administration department is also responsible for economic development initiatives, monitors the annual budget, elections, preparation of city council packets, and ensuring that all who visit during regular business hours receive the services they need.
