Dear Chanhassen Residents,
I’d like to share a few city updates:
Traffic Safety Committee
We receive numerous requests and inquiries regarding road speeds, crosswalks, and other traffic related concerns. A Traffic Safety Committee has been established to create consistent processes and effective data tracking. The committee is comprised of city engineering, public works, planning, and the Carver County Sheriff’s Office with the mission to make recommendations for the betterment of traffic safety and proper management of roads and rights-of-way. We have also created a Traffic Concern Tracker on our website where residents can submit their concern and the city has a central location for data tracking and metrics.
Internet Service Provider
We know one of the top frustrations for residents is access to fiber/reliable internet service. We continue to make progress with the internet service provider, MetroNet, to be an additional option for service. The contract is under final review by our attorneys, and we anticipate City Council to consider final approval in September.
Residents have been asking about the city’s ability to resolve the Mediacom and Tegna blackout on KARE 11. Recognizing the city has limited control on a national negotiation, we reached out to Congressman Phillips’ office. His office connected with the FCC and received the following response: “These are private negotiations between the parties and the FCC does not get involved unless one of the parties files a complaint alleging that the other isn’t negotiating in good faith. There have been none. Affected customers can see if they can receive the free, over-the-air signal from the NBC station by using an antenna.” While frustrating, Chanhassen unfortunately has no leverage with this ongoing situation.
On Monday, we honored Jack Adkins who retired from the Chanhassen Fire Department after serving an incredible 30-plus years. He was a valued member of the team, highly respected by the entire department and the many residents and businesses he served. THANK YOU, JACK!
Wishing you all a great weekend!
