Lotus Lake Alum Treament Project

Riley Purgatory Watershed District

The Riley-Purgatory-Bluff Creek Watershed District will be treating Lotus Lake with Aluminum Sulfate (Alum) later this month (tentative start date Sept 17th or later). This chemical shortly after being applied sinks to the bottom of the lake and binds with phosphorus. Phosphorus is a nutrient that is in excess in Lotus Lake and one of the reasons that the water quality of Lotus Lake is poor. Alum is a common lake restoration treatment and is safe. Alum does not pose any known risk to humans, pets or wildlife. Please find included in this letter a packet containing further information about the project and more information on Alum. Please give the applicators extra room while they are working.
