The City of Chanhassen will host a grand opening celebration of the 58-acre Fox Woods Nature Preserve. The celebration includes remarks from Mayor Denny Laufenburger, a ribbon cuttingceremony, a self-guided tour with interpretive signage, coloring books, and refreshments. The event will take place in Hawkcrest Court, located in the Foxwood development off of Great PlainsBoulevard.
The initial 37 acres of the preserve were purchased in 1998 after Chanhassen citizens voted to bond for additional park and open space acquisition and improvements. In 2009, an additional 21 acres of wetlands and shoreline were purchased from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and added to the preserve. The opening of the adjoining Foxwood neighborhood in 2017/18 now offers the first public on-street parking and trail access into the preserve.
