About US

The Chanhassen Fire Department is comprised of 43 paid on call firefighters, a full time fire chief, fire marshal, and firefighter/administrative specialist. Additionally, a volunteer fire department chaplain serves the members and community when the need arises.

The Fire Chief reports to the City Manager and is also responsible for Emergency Management for the community. The Fire Chief manages the department using three paid on call Assistant Chiefs.

Besides emergency calls, the fire department is responsible for a community based fire prevention program managed by the Fire Marshal. This program includes public safety messages, school/station visits, and annual events such as Fire Prevention Week and the Fire Department Open House. Each year close to a thousand K-12 students visit the fire station for fire prevention week. Additionally, around 800 residents attend the open house.

The 900 plus annual calls for services are handled by two fire stations within Chanhassen. Our equipment includes (3) Engine companies, (1) 100’ platform ladder, and various smaller rescue and grass fire units. The fire department utilizes mutual aid agreements from surrounding communities on calls that demand more resources than are available within the city.

Firefighters attend training most Monday evenings, as well as, online training and specialty schools hosted throughout the state and nationally at various times during the year. Training and safety are a major focus for the Chanhassen Fire Department.

In 2012, the city hired Springsted, Inc. to complete a comprehensive study of the Chanhassen Fire Department. The entire Chanhassen Fire Department Study is available for your review.
